Stress Awareness Month: The Importance of Prioritizing Self-Care

April is Stress Awareness Month–a time to recognize the impact stress has on our lives, and to prioritize the importance of managing it. Stress affects us all in many different ways. It can disrupt sleep, negatively affect mental health, and it can even be the driver of many uncomfortable physical symptoms. In fact, according to the American Institute of Stress, up to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians are related to stress!

If you happen to be a busy mom like myself, you’re likely no stranger to stress. Between managing work, family obligations, sports schedules, and everything in between… it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and even burnt out. But it's important to remember that chronic stress can have serious long-term effects on your health - including increasing your risk of heart disease and diabetes, among many other chronic conditions.

So what can you do to manage stress and prioritize your health? Here are a few tips:

  1. Make time for self-care: Whether it's going for a run, practicing yoga, or hiding from your kids 🤪,  be sure to carve out time each day for activities that truly help you relax and recharge.
  2. Prioritize healthy eating: Consuming a balanced diet that's rich in nutrients can help support your body's ability to manage stress. But when you’re always on-the-go, this can be especially challenging. That’s why I’m thankful for zing bars. They are formulated by Registered Dietitians, so I always feel like I’m making a healthy choice. They’re made with wholesome ingredients, plant-based protein, good-for-you fats, and energizing carbs, which make them a perfect option for nourishing your body and managing your stress levels at the same time.
  3. Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for managing stress and supporting overall health. Aim for 7-9 hours each night, and try to establish a relaxing bedtime routine to help you unwind.
  4. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness practices like meditation and deep breathing can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Try incorporating these practices into your daily routine to help manage stress and improve your overall well-being.

By taking steps to manage stress and prioritize your health, you will feel more energized, focused, and ready to tackle whatever challenges come your way. Now go relax and give yourself a pat on the back… because you deserve it!
